Everyone will have their own picture of what an alcoholic, or drug addict is. It may be the image of the old man on the park bench drinking meths, or the junkie shooting up heroin. The fact is that whilst these images may represent addiction in one form, the vast majority of addicts are not like this. Solvent abuse may be the beginning of an addiction problem which can affect anyone, including people in their teens and early twenties. If recognised and acknowledged early addiction does not have to have the devastating consequences that prolonged drinking or drug taking can cause.

How common is it?
There is growing evidence of an increase in the number of young people that are drinking and using other drugs problematically, especially in Northern Europe.

How do I know if I have it?
The common symptoms of addiction are preoccupation with using addictive substances, finding you need more in order to achieve the desired effect, loss of control once you have started using, withdrawal symptoms such as shaking excessive sweating and vomiting. Some people experience visual or auditory hallucinations. Feelings of paranoia can also be as a result of drug use. Complete a self assessment questionnaire on this site, and/or seek a professional assessment of your problems.

Can it be inherited?
Addiction can be seen as an illness and there is evidence to support a theory of genetic predisposition. This is not always the case however and if you feel that you are using substances problematically you should seek further help.

Can an addiction cure be found?
Addiction is almost impossible to overcome alone, but with the help of others, a large number of people find recovery.

COFFEE /CAFFEINE CURE

Many people rely on caffeine to help concentration and alleviate tiredness.

But caffeine has many negative side effects. High levels in the body can make us irritable, disturb
our sleep and cause palpitations and concentration problems.

In the long-term it can also lead to gastric and heart problems and increase our risk of osteoporosis.

NICOTINE
Nicotine is the highly addictive component of cigarettes and other tobacco products. It acts as a stimulant for most smokers and is thought of as one of the most difficult addictions to overcome. The physical effects of withdrawal from nicotine are actually relatively mild and brief. Often it is the psychological dependency that keeps us hooked.

GAMBLING CURE
The number of people with gambling addictions and debts has also risen as the popularity of online and mobile gambling has boomed. Women in particular, who might not have gone to traditional betting shops, are now gambling on the Internet from the comfort of their homes.
 Gambling
The sense of anticipation we feel when we take a risk with our money creates a natural high, an adrenalin rush. Added to this, the gambling environment can provide an escape from everyday life. Whether it be a glitzy casino, a noisy amusement arcade or even an online betting site, for the time that we are taking part we can be surrounded by different people, sounds and emotions, all of which stimulate our senses.

If gambling is having a negative effect on your life, this is a clear indication that it is a problem. An early warning sign may be that you feel euphoria in the event of winning (often accompanied by an urge to win more) and an increasing low when losing. Or you might find gambling itself so compelling that you don’t even care any more if you win or lose.

Compulsive gambling is a very high stakes game, where friendships, family, finances, and reputations are all at great risk. You may be driven to crime to raise money to continue gambling in the hope of paying off debts. You probably feel remorse, guilt and shame and may have considered or attempted suicide. If you find yourself in this destructive cycle, the important thing is to get help as soon as possible.

Alcohol Cure

Alcohol dependency is the most common form of addiction. Thousands of people die every year from alcohol-related causes and it’s one of the top four (along with smoking) causes of premature death.

When we are addicted to alcohol we have a compulsion to drink. If we don’t, we suffer withdrawal symptoms, such as upset stomach, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety. So we consume more alcohol to reduce the symptoms and begin to drink more still in order to feel the same 'high'.

Alcohol The end stage of alcohol problems, when someone has lost his or her family, job and health because of alcohol abuse, doesn’t happen overnight. If you think about drinking all the time, if you keep trying to quit but can’t, or if you often drink more than you plan to, you may have a problem with alcohol that could start you on this route.

Over time, alcohol affects every part of the body. As well as liver disease, it can be responsible for brain damage, cancer and strokes, heart problems, infertility and skin disorders. Mental health conditions, particularly depression and anxiety, are also common. Each can lead to, or reinforce, the other.

The reasons why we get into difficulties with alcohol are complex and are often bound up with our feelings about ourselves and our place in the world. There may also be a genetic component – a child with an alcoholic parent is four times more likely to develop alcohol problems. Accepting that you have a problem with alcohol can be overwhelming. But there is huge support available for anyone who is prepared to seek an addiction cure.

Drug Addiction Cure

Drug abuse is seen as one of the major social problems of our age. Nearly 35% of the population has tried illegal drugs. That is almost 19 million people. Of those, about 330,000 are addicts. Some drugs have a calming effect, others make us feel more alert and energetic – but what they all do is to take us away from the reality of everyday life. Anyone can become addicted, be it to illegal drugs or prescribed ones, and the consequences are often devastating.

Three classes, A, B and C, with Class A being considered the most dangerous. Class A drugs include heroin, cocaine, crack, ecstasy, LSD and magic mushrooms. Heroin initially produces a pleasant euphoria but this is soon replaced by extremely unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. The brief high experienced by cocaine and crack users is often followed by fatigue and depression. If you smoke crack regularly, you risk lung damage and bronchitis, paranoia and depression.

Drugs Class B drugs include amphetamines and barbiturates. Amphetamines initially increase energy, alertness and confidence but as they wear off you feel tired, anxious, weak and unwell. Large doses cause depression, paranoia and even hallucinations. Barbiturates can cause hostility and anxiety, slurred speech and loss of co-ordination. There is a high risk of overdose because as few as 10 tablets can be lethal.

Class C drugs include cannabis, anabolic steroids and tranquillisers. More than 22,000 people a year are being treated for cannabis addiction. Use of the drug, particularly the most potent form skunk, has been linked to mental health problems. About one in seven people are prescribed tranquillisers each year. One in 40 become dependent on them.

The issues of addiction are complex but there are many sources of knowledge and therapy to help you understand and overcome them. With help, many addicts make a lifelong recovery. If you find yourself needing an addiction cure, you are not alone, and We WILL help.

Sex Addiction Cure

Healthy sex is a fulfilling expression of love and affection and a way of achieving deeper emotional intimacy. Yet, for some, there is a driving compulsion to engage in sexual activity excessively and harmfully. An addiction to sex means we may find it impossible to control or postpone our sexual feelings and actions. We may go on sexual binges, striving to satisfy an insatiable sexual craving. Sex may even become our purpose for living.

Love addicts, on the other hand, obsessively seek out romantic partners as a way of gaining the emotional stability they themselves lack. We might attach ourselves to others and either take care of them, or become helpless and cared for as a way of controlling our partners and avoiding abandonment. We are likely to have a very low self-esteem, to lack self-identity and fear change.

Sex and Love What causes us to become sex or love addicts is often rooted in childhood and adolescence. Early trauma, deprivation, neglect and possibly depression may be factors. Up to 60% of people with sex addiction were abused by someone before they reached adulthood. Longstanding relationship and intimacy problems are also common.

The consequences of these addictions are as severe as those of any other addiction. They impact all areas of our lives: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and financial. Admitting that there is a problem can be even harder for the sex addict because of the intense shame that often accompanies this addiction.

Therapy and treatment are potentially very helpful. The ADDICTION CURE process is similar to that of substance addictions and involves identifying and changing painful, damaging behaviour.

Eating Disorder Cure`s

As with any other addiction, food addiction is about losing control, in this instance over how much and what we eat. It's a compulsive, excessive craving for foods that, in themselves, are harmful to us (addicts typically binge on junk foods) and an inability to control our intake. If you binge eat and then vomit or use laxatives to purge yourself, you are suffering from the form of addiction known as bulimia.

The majority of food addicts for whom the disease has progressed are overweight or obese. Some addicts, particularly bulimics, will fast, diet and/or exercise vigorously in order to prevent weight gain. They may maintain a normal weight or it may fluctuate significantly.

Eating Addiction For most addicts, there are foods that act as 'triggers' once we start eating them we just can't stop. These are usually sugary foods, white flour, and other refined carbohydrates, which research has shown could have addictive qualities because they cause certain chemical changes in the brain.

Food addiction is a serious condition with many adverse health consequences. Obesity, psychological disorders, diabetes, and gastric problems are just a few. The first step to recovery is, of course, to realize and accept the problem. Many food addicts also need help with issues of control, depression, low self-esteem, isolation, guilt and disappointment.

As with any form of ADDICTION CURE, there is no quick route to recovery. Ambitious attempts to lose weight quickly are usually short-lived. Overcoming this condition involves changing our whole approach to food and adopting a new lifestyle and eating patterns for the long term.
